Just watched her new show tonight. This woman should be lined up against a wall and shot. Shepherds pie made with tined mince meat and frozen mash. You'll may as well get a frozen one.

Could someone put Jamie Oliver next to her please
whatabeauty
Theres nowt wrong with Jamie 'pukka' Oliver dry2.gif

I don't like Delia, never have, her style of cooking just wasn't something i'd cook at home, and it's hardly storecupboard ingredients.

To make a career from cooking from scratch, to 'lets see what I can make from food that comes from tins' is insulting.

In this day and age people, women especially, are more aware of heathy eating, especially with children.

AWT, the 'squashed BeeGee' is my kinda cooking skills

I saw her the other day showing you how to cook frozen oven chips erm.gif

Just change "Martha" to "Delia"

HOME HINTS - Martha Stewarts Way Vs The Real Woman's

Martha's way #1:
Stuff a miniature marshmallow in the bottom of a sugar cone to prevent ice
cream drips.

The Real Women's Way:
Just suck the ice cream out of the bottom of the cone, for Pete's sake,
you are probably lying on the couch with your feet up eating it anyway.
-----------
Martha's way #2:
To keep potatoes from budding, place an apple in the bag with the potatoes.

The Real Women's Way:
Buy Deb mashed potato mix and keep it in the pantry for up to a year.
-----------
Martha's way #3:
When a cake recipe calls for flouring the baking pan, use a bit of the dry
cake mix instead and there won't be any white mess on the outside of the cake.

The Real Women's Way:
Go to the bakery. They'll even decorate it for you.
-----------
Martha's way #4:
If you accidentally over salt a dish while it's still cooking, drop in a
peeled potato and it will absorb the excess salt for an instant "fix me up".

The Real Women's Way:
If you over salt a dish while you are cooking, that's too damn bad. Please
recite with me: The Real Women's motto: I made it and you will eat it and I
don't care how bad it tastes.
-----------
Martha's way #5:
Wrap celery in aluminium foil when putting in the refrigerator and it will
keep for weeks.

The Real Women's Way:
Celery? Never heard of the stuff.
-----------
Martha's way #6:
Brush some beaten egg white over pie crust before baking to yield a beautiful
glossy finish.

The Real Women's Way:
The Sara Lee frozen pie directions do not include brushing egg whites over
the crust and so I don't do it.
-----------
Martha's way #7:
Cure for headaches: Take a lime, cut it in half and rub it on your forehead.
The throbbing will go away.

The Real Women's Way:
Martha, dear, the only reason this works is because you can't rub a lime on
your forehead without getting lime juice in your eye, and then the problem
isn't the headache any more, it is because you are now BLIND!
-----------
Martha's way #9:
If you have a problem opening jars: Try using latex dishwashing gloves.
They give a non slip grip that makes opening jars easy.

The Real Women's Way:
Go ask the very cute neighbour to do it.
-----------

And finally - the most important tip:

Martha's way #10:
Don't throw out all that left-over wine. Freeze into ice cubes for future use
in casseroles and sauces.

The Real Women's Way:
Left-over wine ...??

How to cook over chips? Preheat the oven to 200c then stick em in for twenty mins. Please dont tell me I've been doing it wrong all these years panic.gif

I don't like any TV chefs including Delia. We had Gordon Ramsey visit a place called the Walnut Tree outside Abergavenny a few years back, for one of his Hells Kitchen prgrams. I hate all the fancy la de da food, a huge plate with barely a mouthful of food in the middle.

I watched the episode where she's Cooking frozen foods. That's all very weLl, but have you seen the price of half the frozen foods.

I'd say using convience foods as your ingredients 'is' following a fashion....
FBG
She is doing a service for all those mothers that can't afford fashion food, not everyone lives in a semi in suburbia and can afford to buy it.
Scouse
Hmmmm - making chips

A whole 2kg bag of potatoes = £1.24
2.25k frozen homefries = £2.25

Yup.... I can see how that theory works FBG dry2.gif
FBG
tesco fresh chicken £3.69

tesco frozen chicken £1.79
Scouse
Asda smart price chicken fillets = £2.19

Given the prices we've stated -

Chicken and chips Delias way = £4.04

From fresh = £3.43

Just 'cos something's convenient.... doesn't necessarily make it cheaper.... Delia is not doing a service for mothers on low incomes... she's promoting convenience foods packed with crap and packaging it so that you'll believe she's doing you all a favour!..... rolleyes.gif
FBG
I could qoute thousands of prices the other way, but to tell you the truth I can't be arsed and havn't got the time really. Delia does an absoltely terrific job for busy less well off mothers imo. And makes a welcome change from all the middle class feel good about yourself jump on the band wagon fashion food cretins out there wink.gif
Scouse
LOL... well we'll have to agree to disagree FBG wink.gif

I think a happy medium could be found as we've shown price wise in the difference in cost between fresh and convenience.... you don't have to be middle class or on a high income to eat healthily... you just have to shop wisely and quit the fags and lager!.... I'm kidding! * runs!* laughing.gif

I think she's probably done this series/book to differentiate herself from all the other celeb cooks out there.

However a lot of what she says makes sense. There ain't nobody on this forum who loves food more than me. I'd rather pay a load of money in a decent restaurant than blow it on most other things. I like to think I've got discerning tastebuds. But most of us buy ready meals and sling them in the microwave for convinience. This is a sort of middle ground between that and proper cooking.
FBG
If you watch the program she does cook properly, she just replaces frozen meat for fresh meat, and packet vegtables for fresh. I would say the majority of the population uses frozen meat and there is nothing wrong with that. In an ideal world everyone would use fresh veggies just dug from the garden and a lovely fresh chicken slaughtered in the backyard and plucked there and then. But the sad truth is that the majority of working people just dont have the time. So a frozen chicken and frozen peas is the way to go. And Delia has shown some great ways to use these products in a tasty and quick way. Nothing wrong with that i.m.o.

Sorry Scouse will disagree all day with you on this one lol
Scouse
Awwww don't be sorry FBG... you go for it LOL.... I very much enjoy sensible debate hun wink.gif

I can't disagree with what you say in regard to time saving for a working family/person hun... however... my debate with you was initially over cost... and we've done that one... tongue.gif

I agree with you on that one.

In the show i saw that i mentioned, she did actually do good things. She showed other things to do with chips which is no bad thing.

Its just her saying how to cook chips which stuck in my throat a bit
FBG
Yeah showing how to cook chips was a bit naff lol
whatabeauty
I don't agree with this 'aint got time ' attitude, it takes 10 minutes to knock up a stirfry, I takes 20 mins, to cook chicken breast, broccoli and new potatoes, The night before cook a fresh chicken , the next day take 10 minutes to get pasta out of bag, put in salted water, add cooked chicken, tub of creme fraiche. done.

Buy a slow cooker, £9.97 in Tesco , stick a fresh chicken in it. (or frozen if thats what you prefer) , or stick beef mince in it, chop a chilli, add and onion, tinned toms, add the kidney beans as you walk in the door take your coat off and make a cuppa. Voila chilli.

The same goes for the whingers that 'can't afford to feed their family fresh fruit and veg' whilst shoving pizza down their gullets. Thats boll***s. I can post a recipe a day if thats what people want, a recipe that cost no more than a fiver, delicious, nutricious, meals and you can feed a family of four on it.

I ain't ranting, I aint moaning, just being honest and stating what I believe victory.gif
