An extract from Hogfather.
We teach our children little lies...so they are ready for the big ones as they grow older.
Susan: "You're saying humans need ... fantasies to make life bearable."
Death: REALLY? AS IF IT WAS SOME KIND OF PINK PILL? NO. HUMANS NEED FANTASIES TO BE HUMAN. TO BE THE PLACE WHERE THE FALLING ANGEL MEETS THE RISING APE.
Susan: "Tooth fairies? Hogfathers? Little--"
Death: YES. AS PRACTICE. YOU HAVE TO START OUT LEARNING TO BELIEVE THE LITTLE LIES.
Susan: "So we can believe the big ones?"
Death: YES. JUSTICE. MERCY. DUTY. THAT SORT OF THING.

Some Brits can't even detect sarcasm.
Funny that, being as Brits are generally the most sarcastic people I've ever met -- in a good way.

Offhand I'd say I saw the sarcasm.
And the lack of a coherent reply.

Was this supposed to be a serious thread?
From the opening post, I presumed it was jocular.
My apologies if I misapprehended your intentions.

Sarcasm? No. Disappointment yes.
I'm beginning to notice that many around here lack the ability to think about anything other than in conventional ways.

The longer you hold an opinion about something the more polarised becomes your view.
A belief is an opinion you've held for a long time.

Fair comment.
But why do we need strong beliefs?
Is polarized thinking compulsory?

If we assume beliefs are essentially just opinions we don't need them. They just develop over time.
Generally speaking older people have stronger beliefs

A belief in Jesus Christ as a personal Saviour and Lord is not an opinion but based upon the facts of God's infallible word, the Bible. People do not believe the Bible because the Devil has blinded them. Unless God opens their eyes they will stay blinded.

Hell is not full and if you don't have Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour you will go there.

It should be a lot of soul and very little faith in man made products.
