Why do they call it Football? They kick the ball even less than rugby players!

You're right -- "football" is a most non-descriptive name for the sport.
But what do you expect from Americans? Everyone knows they're a bit thick.

WASHINGTON REDSKINS RULE

New England Patriots…they rule, puppy.

Tom Brady, Junior Seau, Tedy Bruschi, Randy Moss…just unstoppable. They need a good running back, tho. But hey, they’ve got the 49er’s first round pick and McFadden is coming out of college.

The Super Bowl will be between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots.
The Giants are the underdogs, but they beat all the oddsmakers to get to the Super Bowl, most recently by beating the Green Bay Packers for the NFC Championship at Green Bay in sub-zero (Fahrenheit) weather.
The Patriots' star quareterback Tom Brady is a staunch Republican and a Bush supporter.

Good luck to your New York team. They were impressive against Green Bay and they continue to amaze. But amazing is not what it takes to beat the Patriots. It takes talent. How is New York going to beat the Patriot's defense?
And Brady is from San Mateo County, okay? He's from Sera High School, not two miles south of San Francisco. The Peninsula is stacked with Republicans. No surprise there. But he is a SF Giants and GS Warriors fan. So the man has some class.

The underdog New York Giants staged the biggest upset in Super Bowl history yesterday by beating the New England Patriots.
The Patriots, recent three-time Super Bowl winners, had not lost a single game during the regular season.
The Giants barely squeaked into the playoffs as a "wild-card" team that did not even finish first in their division.
Anyone who bet on the Giants in Vegas is very, very happy today.
Well done the Giants

Sorry but American Football is sooooooooo boring. It's just men hurting each other - like a night out locally for me!
murdock
Jan 13 2011, 10:26 PM
For the most part yes i agree men hitting each other. However, I prefer the tactics of the head coaches. it really is like a live chess match when you get into the tactics of each play. plus i really like keeping track of the stats for each team/player.

It is so much more than men just hitting each other. Every player has his assignment, be it pass blocking, run blocking, running a route ect. It's really hard to notice the nuances with plays going so fast.
Anywho, I've played Fantasy Football for years, I'd love to join another league.

If I get chance to catch any of it on SKY one night perhaps I should sit down and try to watch it properly then - give it a chance.

Some big games on right now Ab so it could be a good time to start. Baltimore vs Pittsburgh tonight will be a really good game. plus it starts a little earlier at 9:30 so no need to stay up till 5am to see the end of it.

I'd happily watch it, and I have done on several occasions. But it's just too much effort to see it in the UK. If it's on TV it'll be a channel that I don't have at stupid o'clock at night, and live games are rarer than hen's teeth.
