Just wondering what peoples views are on football violence by players and fans? Do you think football violence is a problem today? Would you be interesting in buying a tshirt which stands up to football violence if it came onto the market? Do you think football violence is damaging footballs reputation?

if it was'nt for football violence nobody would go to matches.there is nothing wrong with a running pitch battle, through your own town.but it does heighten the senses, running through a town you've never been to looking for a train station.bristol city c.s.f sohmy.gif

I think there's less violence both on & off the pitch than the 70s & 80s. Who could forget the Leeds team of the Billy Bremner era.

They were the days when we had a proper team, Norman "bites yer legs" hunter, Allen "Sniffer" Clarke, Jack "the giraffe" Charlton, Peter "Hot-shot" Lorimer. What ever happened to the days of the great nicknames?

The only diving that went on was whe one of the away supporters was thrown from the upper tier of the stands, now that was a dive.

Of course violence needs to stop whether it be in the stadium, on the pitch or in the streets afterwards. Or anywhere else for that matter.

It's supposed to be a sport for all ages to enjoy. How are parents supposed to introduce their children to the thrill of a live footy match if they have to worry about arseholes causing havoc?

Yeah people out for a saturday afternoon with their families just LOVE it . Plenty , No Majority of people go to matches to enjoy the game , Not because they want to behave like a knobend .

When I was a kid going to watch Arsenal the whole football hooligan thing used to be quite exciting.

I never got involved myself but I've stood on the terraces in the North Bank on many occasions while Chelsea, Tottenham and West Ham ran the Arsenal boys ragged. Arsenal never were the top boys in London as far as fighting was concerned.

As far as I could see it never amounted to anything more than a few punches here and there and nobody got badly hurt. There were of course exceptions- one Arsenal lad was knifed and died after a game against West Ham.

It seems to me like it's fairly similar to any town centre on a Friday or Saturday night nowadays. If the ejits want to fight amongst themselves then let them get on with it

Seems to have made its way into our culture nowadays, what can happen on the field can pass on to the terraces, and on to the kids..

I remember once as a kid, standing in the tunnel at seven sisters station with the ICF at one end, and Gooners at the other and having nowhere to run lol ..

I've heard someone from another forum glamourising football violence,he took part in when he was young, now the bloke concerned is in his 50's and still feels like he misses it . Strange.

people had fights in football grounds 2 decades ago.i dont know if you noticed, but football grounds are full of cameras and coppers.no firm worth a wank fights with normal fans, from the opposing side.all the fights are arranged on phones and happen miles from the ground.if two groups of blokes want to fight, why should anyone else worry.unless your in the loop, you would'nt even see the fight. here's a little analogy,if prositutes did'nt ply their trade, instances of rape would sky rocket.this obviously would be due to the sick twats who rape and knock them about, taking it out on joe public.the same with football fighting,if like minded blokes aint smacking the shit out of each other for supporting different football teams, they would be smacking the shit out of joe public.

whether you like it or not,a lot of blokes like to fight.you can call them knob ends(on forum you will at least) but they wont bother you.unless you want them too.you see they get a reputation for fighting blokes with equal reputations.so the chances of them hitting some new age bloke are remote,to say the least. everyone is free to do what they want, just because it unsettles you.dont make it wrong.

Of course it's wrong.
I think you will find the fact that disrupting the peace, and brawling in the streets like that is illegal is what makes it wrong.

But then I guess it's only a certain type of person who doesn't think that illegal, boorish and highly unpleasant behaviour like that isn't wrong.

I'm fully aware football grounds now have camera's and enforced policing , The fact these incidents occur miles away from the ground doesn't make it better and certainly doesn't make it right . I was refering to your reference of 'There's nothing wrong with a running pitch battle through your own town' . Plenty of innocent people are caught up in it , We had an incident in Southampton last year .

As for your analogy of prostitutes not plying their trade , Rape is more to do with power and control rather than actual sex , So i'm not sure if rape offences would soar or not , Given that most men visit prostitutes purely for sex , Rather than the control , Violence and power aspect .

And believe me , I would be more than happy to call anyone who condones violence a knobend not only on a forum , But to their face as well .

If the reference of a 'New age bloke' was to me , Well then i'm more than happy to be refered to as one , I don't need to knock seven bells of shit out of anyone to prove my masculinity .

Football violence is way better now than it used to be in the 70's and even 80's. Maybe it's because it takes place out of sight now, but at one time you used to expect trouble from Man Utd fans travelling. Going to a Chelsea games could in itself be classed as a dangerous sport. The game has come a long way, but do people perhaps have their rose tinted specs on too much, and think how bad things are and how good things used to be at one time. It was never like that.
