How far do you agree that gaming influences the way in which children act and the way in which they perceive the world? Give your opinons or disscusion points?

very little, if kids cant tell that there is a difference between what happens in a game and real life, then there a lost cause, that type of person would be influenced by films or music if there wasn't any games around

I am not related to londonboy, but thanks for ur opinion! Don't you think that children act out what they see on TV! If they do that why couldn'nt video games influence them to do something!

i see, but what about games where (age of empires???) you need to kill animals for food, so in theory some kid witha bow and arrow will go into the local zoo and shoot a deer or gazelle?

why dont we make games that teach history,s**t that wont work as history involves fighting.games are about escape and doing things you cant in everyday life.
if kids connect this to everyday life then its up to the parents to teach them the difference.

Thought about this SO much lately.
On one hand, games have evolved so much graphically that there MUST be some ramifications of shooting a life life person in the head.
On the other, most kids know it's only a game.
You play Warcraft / Doom / whatever, and you kill literally hundreds of critters in a session, but you give no thought to the reality of what you've done because it's only a game. You don't go outside thinking "must kill ants, must murder".
So, I think it's only the few who were already succeptible to such things that are the ones causing trouble for the rest. You'll get that in society no matter what they are doing.

For a start, all games have age limits for a reason. They are 18's for the same reason a DVD is an 18. It's the parents responsibility to gauge if a person younger than this should be allowed to play or not. So it's down to the parents isn't it really? I would never let, say, a 10 year old play a game where the aim is to kill others, as at that age they would be easily influenced
