Full Version: Robbie and his rudebox

Before i start, i should say that i've been a fan of Robbies since his Take That years. I've not always liked every song, or the way he conducted himself in every interview but i've always followed him and admired him to some extent.

But..

Since Guy Chambers stopped writing his songs, i think Robbie isnt half as good as he used to be. His ability to entertain is as good as ever, but it seems that theres been a decline in the quality in his songs.. And although this latest release called Rudebox, is catchy enough after a few listens.. really it seems to me like he's trying rapping out of desperation.

Also, I saw on Sky News today that the general reaction to the latest single is a big thumbs down.

Any other opinions?

i adore the robster for his music and his looks, i liked him from take that days, but i have to say i prefer the old robbie music and i feel his obsession with breaking america is having an effect on his songs, i dont like much of the new stuff, but i can still see he's a talented guy he just seems to be focusing on the wrong stuff at the mo, he's never been a great rapper and should leave it too the experts biggrin.gif but i still love him wub.gif

Went to Glasgow last week to see him. He was great.

Thanks for your responses, but what about the standard of his music compared to a few years ago?

He has not been the same since he got rid of Guy Chambers, he is a good singer and entertainer, but he should leave the song writing to those who know how to do it. Saw the video for his new song, and it reminded me of when the sex pistols first came out and my dad trying to sing pretty vacant...........it just never worked laugh.gif

I liked his early solo stuff and I also think his last album
"Intensive Care" is great...
But to be honest, I don't like Rudebox. But Guess it's just a fun song for him as he has done some heavy worded lyrics songs in the forementioned album.

I quite like the rudebox song smile.gif

i watched him in concert last night on sky, and some of it was a bit irritating, especially when he gets jonny wilks on with him, but i love his music...the old stuff....and hes is the most gorgeous bloke on the planet wub.gif

I think Robbie was a better performer when he was on drugs, but then most performers are.
pzblues
just my opinion people, but i think he is and always has been over rated and up his own arse, he thinks he's some kinda tortured genius and wants sympathy for what he has become "i wish i was just an ordinary guy" easily done robbie, give all ya money away and stop making cheezy pop songs...
babynut
I love Rudebox..wasnt sure about it when i first heard it...but i went to see robbie in Milton Keynes and when i heard rudebox live..it was amazing..got the whole crowd bouncing

I'm listening to this album at the moment and I must admit it's a world away from anything he's done before, he's moved away from his 'comfort zone' and gone completley different. Not at all serious, if anything it sounds a bit immature, nothing serious like his other albums. A few of the tracks (3 at least, amybe 4) sound like the pet shop boys are on it blink.gif Its very synthesizor 80's sounding, very 80's indeed. Theres nothing wrong with the 80's BUT it seems to ripping off the 80's sound. There's alot of talking on the tracks, his voice dosen't really come out at all. He dosen't really sing on any of them.
If it was by another artist i'd give it a thumbs down, but Robbie has the charm, charisma and marketability to carry this album off. I think this won't necessarily break him, concert ticket sales prove he wont be going anywhere, but I cant see why he's realeased an album like this, i'd like to say he hasn't bothered and dosen't care, but i think thats not true. I can say that there is definately something missing, perhaps the predictabilty?

Rudebox - is obviously a fantastic track
Viva Life on Mars - slightly wierd
Lovelight - another good track
Bongo Bong and Je Ne T'aime Plus - brilliant track, i'd like to see this released as his 3rd track off the album
She's Madonna - forgettable
Keep On - forgetable
Good Doctor - forgetable,
The Actor - it sounds a bit autobiographical, it brings home the fact that he's a screwed up as the rest of us sad.gif 'cept we aint famous laugh.gif )
Never Touch That Switch - forgetable
Louise- someone help me out here, this a human league track i'm sure of it.
We're The Pet Shop Boys - very pet shop boys laugh.gif
Burslem Normals - have no idea what he's doing on this one
Kiss Me - another rip off of an 80's track , can't think what one, probaly a pet shop boys one blink.gif but it's good i must say, its lively and i'm tapping my foot.
The 80's - this is good, very honest, very true, and probably very him in the 80's laugh.gif sounds almost like 'The Streets' - has the Rudebox feel about it, i like the line 'it's the 80's you mong!! laugh.gif
The 90's - He's the type of boy i felt giddy over and fell in love with ( well at that age i thought it was love), I wonder if he's actually singing about his time with Take That smile.gif and he actually decides to sing abit in this one blink.gif this one is sad if it's autobiographical.
Summertime - Forgetable

At the moment i'd rank it the worst album he's done, you have no idea how much I really want to like this album, but at the moment its not one thats going on my cd player in the car, sad.gif but I will report back in 3 months time and i've let the tracks grow on me, and i'll be eating my words laugh.gif Perhaps it isnt meant to be serious perhaps its meant to be like this, He sounds as though theres alot of reminising in this album, and he seems damn lonely. I want Angels, Millenium, Feel, all the good ones, I don't like change sad.gif

Robbie Robbie Robbie. I'd still shag you biggrin.gif

I've just noticed at the end of the album there is a track called - Dickhead - how many times can you say dickead and sh*t in 3 1/2 minutes, very chav sounding, it's actually good, but i wouldn't turn it up loud LOL

A 33-year-old Robbie Williams fan stands to win £10,000 if she can convince her idol to marry her, bookmakers said.

Frances Ingram, from Chester, has placed a £10 bet at odds of 1,000/1 that she will wed the superstar.

And if her dream of marriage fails, Ms Ingram is willing to accept a single date with the star - which could net her £4,000 after she wagered a further £40 at 100/1 that the superstar would ask her out.

The store supervisor claims to be the singer's greatest fan and has his initials tattooed on her back.

Rupert Adams, a spokesman for William Hill, which took the bets, said: "It is one of the more original bets we have ever taken and it is the sort of wager that could become self-fulfilling.

"Everyone loves seeing the bookies taken to the cleaners and I am sure Robbie is no different.

"If he hears about the bet, surely he will ask her out."

sad.gif Now why didn't i think of that laugh.gif
