I just received a really dodgy looking email, supposedly from the co operative bank. The email warns you about internet banking security and provides a link to a page that invites you to either type in your account number or your credit card number and security number to log in.

A simple rule with on-line banking is that they NEVER ask you for your card and account number details like this!!! Don't ever type in your details unless it's with a site you trust and remember, no site will ever request you to type in your personal banking numbers by email!

The subject line for the email was The Co-operative Bank p.l.c. Attention (Needed Update Account Information)

If you receive it, delete it!

I've had similar ones from both Lloyds Bank and Barclays Bank.

I knew exactly what they were, but if you follow the link to 'their' internet page, you'll notice that the address in the address bar is wrong smile.gif

I've also reported all bogus emails to the appropriate address given on the banks' web sites regarding internet fraud.

I had a couple from Barclays, but one of them in particular was memorable - it went into great length to warn me about internet fraud, etc., before asking me to follow the link and fill out my password, etc.

Finally, I've had a couple from eBay, informing me that someone had been misusing my account, and to change the details or something, before eBay froze my account entirely. Again, totally bogus.

I had to make a new email account recently, cos all i seemed to be receiving on my old one, was constant phishing emails from almost all the banks and buildings societies in the UK telling me to update my account or something similar, when i've never had accounts with most of them

I have received emails like this from every UK high street bank I can think of. They can be very convincing sometimes, and if you are really busy or having a bad day or totally unaware you can get scammed. About 4 years ago I got an email from who I thought was Ebay, it was not I gave them my account details and they bought and sold lots of goods under my account. Luckily EBay sorted it out for me and I didn't lose any of my reputation I had built up.

I recently got on of these scams from lloyds, I'm not with them but its basic common sense, never give out your account details unless at the bank itself
