what a great series of books these are, fantasy of the highest kind.

the first trilogy focus on thomas covenant, in our world he loses out on all the trapping fame has brought him when the people in his village find out hes a leper. Shunned and turned into an outcast, he gets into a life threatening accident, when he wakes up he finds himeself in another world on top of a mountain, and so begins the story of thomas covenant, the unbeliever.

Without spoiling for anyone who hasn't read the books, he goes back to the land, very much altered, since his first visit, for the second trilogy.

Then after a gap of over ten years, steven donaldson has started the next series, a quadoligy, if there is such a word. After reading the first of the new series, he leaves the book on a massive cliff hanger, then after visiting his web site, what a disapointment to find out ive got to wait three years for book 2. A must read set of books for anyone who likes there fantasy books.

I'm not a great fan of pure fantasy books, but I'll keep an eye out for this (on your recomendation).

I remember starting this series with the best of intentions... but I'm sorry to say that I couldn't stay interested in it, and I gave up. But then, it was more years ago than I care to count, so maybe it might be worth picking up again.

A few years back, I read the Liveship Traders triliogy by Robin someone or other - that was quite a reasonable trilogy, although a bit somehow PC in places.
