I got Tiscali broadband running on 256Kbits. I seem to get a lot of connection problems with it though.

Sometimes I can be on it all day with no trouble, and other times I have to reset my connection because it drops and all I get in my browser is that annoying page cannot be displayed nonsence. The connection drop seems to be completley random, and can strike at any time of the day. I contacted Tiscali and they told me some things to fiddle with in the Internet options but it hasn't made a difference.

Anyone else using this ISP experiencing the same problems? Or for that matter, does anyone else have the odd connection problem with broadband in general? I thought that the 'always on' bit about broadbant means that it is really on all the time, as well as being a refrence to not having to dial up like the old 56k method...

I have the 10x broadband.

I realised it was a mistake going with them when I moved house and they made me change from 5x to 10 cos they said the exchange in our new area wouldnt take that speed blink.gif

Then on top of that I had to pay £50 moving fee mad.gif

Generally it is pretty fast but like you say, at any time of the day or night suddenly sometimes it can just slow right down or freeze.

I'm going with someone else as soon as I've been with them for a year.

I think that technicaly I'm tied in with them until October as part of the 12 month contract. Mind you, they are moving me up to 512Kb in March at no extra cost, so thats one good thing I can say about them.

On the other hand, if I was a new customer I'd be getting that speed out of them now..looks like theyre getting the next two months worth money out of me for a lesser connection... mad.gif

Dont they have download limits though?

When my tiscali contract ended i shopped around looking for an unlimited deal or someone cheap with a download limit that i could stay under, but i couldnt find one.

I tried BT and Wannado. They calculated my downloads and both estimated my bills would be around £30 each month. I'm not paying that. I dont even download as much as some people.

I stayed with tiscali in the end. I even manage to get a deal where i upgraded the speed and pay less money. I'm more than happy now.. until something goes wrong and i have to call their helpline.. cos that is shite.

I'm still with tiscali and i've not been able to connect since last tuesday. I called them that evening and there was a message saying there was an outage at the exchange in Brighton. Since i live about half an hour away, i assumed that was why i couldnt connect.

24 hours later i still couldnt connect, and that same message was still on their helpline but i chose to speak to an operator to confirm my problem was connected to that outage. They said it wasnt. They did all sorts of tests and said they'd get an engineer to call me the following day (Thursday)

On the Thursday afternoon, an engineer called me, he did more tests and found that the line is "stuck". He said he'd get BT to go to the exchange to fix the problem and that it would be resolved within 24 to 48 hours and that someone would call me to say it was resolved. Just to confirm again, i asked him to check that there wasnt still an outage in Brighton. He told me that no exchange existed erm.gif

Saturday morning, still no connection and no phone call. Saturday evening I called Tiscali from work and i was told there was no fault and no record of any faults. I went mad. He then read my "elevated records" or something like that and found the fault history. He said someone would call me back and asked me when i'd like this to happen. I said 6pm the next day. Half an hour later, i miss a call on my mobile from tiscali. I called them back on the customer care line, asking them to try calling me again. They said they'd ensure that happened, but it didnt.

Then at work today, i find an email to my tiscali address sent yesterday, commenting on the fact that i missed a call at the specified time. The specified time was 24 hours later realmad.gif

I just called them and apparently BT have thrown the fault back as invalid as tiscali havent instructed me to take one final step, which they've told me to do and i'll do it when i get home.

Deary me, the service is f***ing rubbish.

BTW the error message i get is "Disconnected. Error 721.." Cant remember the rest of what it says, but i've googled the message, and what i've found is VPN error messages, but i'm pretty sure my error message doesnt mention VPN

That is dreadful customer service, both form Tiscali and from BT. I am a Tiscali customer and thankfully have had none of the problems described above. However now I am with Virgin media for tv I am considering going the whole hog next year and signing up with them.

I've never had problems until this one. What happened the week before was that i had agreed to having Tiscali Talk, so i'd have cheaper, faster internet and line rental. I was told it would all go live in about two weeks time, but my speed would increase in a few days time.

A few days later, over a week before the go live date, my dad told me how he, and a friend both have tiscali, and had no problems until they got Tiscali Talk. They both have an intermittent connection and have been so far unable to get it fixed. They believe that the problem stems from trying to send internet down the line thats too fast than the line can handle. So on hearing that, i cancelled my package, and just kept it as internet only.

Then three days later i have no internet at all

I am back cool.gif I was told to do this, do that, hit this and that at the same time, click this and press that and then restart. Did that and i'm on. If only they told me to do that the first day doh.gif

Stay away from tiscali everyone of my mates who have had it have it no more, they had nothing but hassle with it fie.gif

Thats waht i've heard too, which is a shame cos i've had pretty much no trouble til now. I sent an email to them last night, listing several complaints and i got a verbal apology this afternoon. And i am to expect some compensation apparently
FBG
Hope you do get some compensation you deserve it putting up with thier sh**
Scorpio
Definitely. I've asked for the money back that i wasted calling them too. It only amounts to £4 but its more than i should have paid.
