I would have to say Salvador Dahli just for his strangness followed by Wasilly Kandinsky for his use of colours
DaveMansfield.net
I also like Dali, or any surrealist artist. Van Gogh is also a favourite

I couldnt choose just one, Anselm Kiefer has alway inspired me and is a frim favourite, along with Sigmar Polke but most of my recent work has been influenced by the likes of Eva Hesse, Paul Thek and Meret Oppenhiem.

you guys might like camille rose garcia, her work is very now and is quite cute and kitsch and a wierd sort of a way.... ill try and get a pic... ah, go here....

Camille Rose Garcia

Got to be Gieger for his sheer vision and talent. I've never seen anything that can touch his work.

Dali is very good, especially that one with the elephants reflecting in the water (can't remember what its called)

Some of Escher's work is fantastic too, the way he bends reality using geomotery (if thats the technical way to describe it blink.gif *not sure because I just made it up*)
misspickle
ohhh i have sooo many- Giger, brilliant works but very dark, of course Salvidor Dali, Andy Warhol ( very interesting character- and i love The velvet underground), helmut newton ( photographer for Vogue and did alot of nudes),
the surrealist movement has to be my fav

You're effing kidding me, fatgirl.

We had to pick a Victorian artist at school to do an assignment on. I picked SANDBY! laugh.gif

I know stuff about your GGGGGrandfather, Surely his talent has come down in the family line somewhere, artistic ability always does.

My god you've shocked the socks off me laugh.gif

I'm glad some lurker looked at this thread and brought my attention to it again, cos I was thinkingof starting a thread on this very subject. Only I was going to call it "What's on your wall?", but this thread will do.

What have you got on your wall? Or what would you like on your wall?
I don't mean to promote answers like "I'd like the Mona Lisa on my wall coz then I'd be rich". I mean have you got an artist work/print/poster around that you could show us.
Don't be afraid to say or show what you would like or you have got because frankly taste on this matter is wide and varied. I for instance wouldn't have the Mona Lisa as a gift...I hate it!

My taste are a bit simpler. I'm a fan of an artist who goes under the name of Geldart. He normally illustrates books but to me he's the master of the pen. His simple style means several of his prints have found their way onto my walls. I've been to his gallery and met the man...he's quite a nice person.

I've a copy of the one below...couldn't afford the original.

I adore most artists for different reasons.
I hve paintings hanging around my house but I would have to photograph them. (and that aint gonna happen it's a private collection )

But I will show you some of the prints i have and ones I want.

These are all very large prints and by now you all know my favourite 'kitch' (god I hate that word, typical yanks trying to tell the world how to think, and what to like, and what is art, and what is essentially favourable to them) ..........finished rant!.................is Alma-Tadema

These are the prints I wantIPB Image

yeah, i like Michelangelo, he was definatley the best of the teenage mutant ninja turtles.

actually i have something in common with Michelangelo, he painted the sistine chapel ceiling, a wonderous piece of art in glorious colours, and as a decorator ive done the odd ceiling in my time, just that most of them were either white or magnolia. laugh.gif

Some rooms in my house have green ceilings and some have peach ceilings. laugh.gif

maybe that could be a new thread what colour is you're ceiling?
easylife
a lot of imagination went into mine, then i thought bugger it, whites easy and cheap
peach tree
laugh.gif Ahh! tongue.gif but which shade of white did you use?

I kid you not I was actually asked that in a paint shop once. rolleyes.gif

I literaly did stumble accross them!!!

I use Firefox as my web browser and a little add on called Stumble Upon that puts a button on your browser to transport you to totally random places on the net. These just happened to be one of them!

thats just great, with a real feeling of depth aswell, what a talented person
Helium
I've seen them before but I never get sick of them... they're amazing biggrin.gif

It'd be great to see them for real though.
easylife
Bloody good. You wouldnt think it would be possible to make them look so 3D.
efFGee
I've seen pages where the guy shows them photographed from the wrong angle so you see how he has drawn them t look 3d, tis very impressive!

There's one with a woman (possibly near a pool) with her leg in the air and from the wrong angle you can see that he's had to draw her leg massively long to make it look 3d!
Dace
Now this is pretty cool smile.gif

Super Cool Pic

Salvador Dahli is deff the fave, i agree with the majority here, i love the surrealist movement, cubism is a top movement. smile.gif
