Now I’m a transformers fanboy and its one of the few franchises I can get behind; that is to say, I grew up with the cartoon, played with the toys and watched the old animated movie more times than, I would asume any film I own(!).
Hell, I still collect the comic runs (while building sheds, buying power tools and keeping up the illusion I’m cool!).
I have to say, I disliked this film.
A lot.
But its not because they killed ‘insert name here’ or because ‘insert name here’ looks different from their comic or cartoon incarnation; its because honestly, Transformers is one of the few franchises that openly allows you to take a well established character and completely reinvent their design.
I mean look at Megatron; he’s been a pistol, a tank, a car, a pink dinosaur, a metallic pink dinosaur, a dragon, a giant head, a robot with 8 modes (one being a giant hand..), a tank again, a jet, a batcar and how he’s a tank which fly’s on the tiniest wings imaginable?
And unless they are a G1 purest, the fan base generally accept these changes with open arms.
I dislike it because it’s a bad film by film standard. Its bad boys 2.. with robots; with is offensive stereotypes, god awful humour (I would expect nothing less from Michael bay.. because ball jokes are still funny, right?), pointless, moronic, idiot infested plot, inept direction and lacklustre story telling, I honestly can’t understand how anyone could come away from this, fan or otherwise with the feeling their money was well spent.
The special effects were good. That was it.
Though I could rant on why I think it’s a bad film till I’m blue in the face, I’m sure we have all herd it before; but I will say, credit where credit is due, something the films have done well is invent minor (mostly new) characters to kill off.
Hurrah for not raping my childhood and instead simply stealing my money.
I guess its fair to say you didn't like the film
