Are there any Newcastle fans here, i like to see all northern clubs do well, but especially Newcastle, relegation is a real disappointment and i sympathise greatly with the toon lads. I sincerely hope that next year things alter for the better.

I was happy they went down.
I don't like newcastle that much, for a couple of reasons.
The main reason is the fans, I understand and respect the fact they are die hard fans, and follow them up and down the country, and even in dire times they can still draw a crowd, but they think they are bigger than they are.
Not just in a way most fans think their teams could overachieve or anything, but most seem to think they are/were a big force in the premiership.
Despite the year they through the title away, they haven't really done much. Haven't won a trophy in a while, there is nothing to suggest they are a big club.
(I know all fans aren't like that, but the ones i have met, or heard about are like that)
Second, and a more recent one is the club structure.
An owner who tries to get more involved that they should, not letting the manager have as much control as they should have, installing a director of football (or whatever wise was) who then buys a bunch of overpriced flops who seem more interested in picking up a paycheck than meeting the fans aspirations, and haven't adapted to the 'english game'.
Saying all that though, they'll probably be back up next season

I was glad to see Newcastle go down, just proves how rubbish they are!

It's Leeds all over again. A club ran by the people who should have nothing to do with football because they know nothing about football. I have to say that they deserved to go down, I watched them play against Portsmouth a week or two back and they where bloody awful. Middleborough are a season or two late in being dropped to the second tier in my opinion - if Newcastle where bad Boro where atrocious.
Look at the so called "smaller" teams that do well at the mo. Everton - not financially well off, not able to attract mega-stars yet able to consistently finish in the top 5 for the last two seasons because the chairman simply lets Moyes do his job. Villa are the same only they are slightly better off in the money stakes but they arent silly with it.
Man City will be next (hope - fingers crossed)to drop. Mark Hughes has no control over who he buys and the players they have got arent up to the Prem pace of football. Money goes along way in football but can also raise expectation and belief a little too high.

Absolute right aboutblank1976, the similarity is remarkable, but the real reason I like to see Newcastle do well is as Frere says the Toon lads live and breathe football, but obviously their own Toon team is the priority. Newcastle fans interviewed after the match all said “we did not deserve to win” no excuse’s straight John Bull “we did not deserve to win” that is typical of the Geordie lads, and despite the bad football, they will still support and give Toon 100%, they are The most loyal of fans.
I have worked around Britain as a contacting fitter/rigger all my life, and the Newcastle lads are a special breed, they are the best lads I have ever worked with, they have no pretence of being anything other than exactly what they are, take it or leave it. Their loyalty to their team is matched by their loyalty t o friends and workmates, they will never let you down, to a man the Geordie lads are pure Gold.
The only other area I have found to match the Geordies, are the Barnsley lads, there is not a lot of difference between the two and just like the Geordie lads, they will turn the most drastic situation in to a joke, they will have you splitting your sides in no time, it’s a sort of dry humor that only Newcastle and Barnsley lads have.
Liverpool lads are similar, but they seem to do what they do, because they are trying to live up to a name, the Geordie and Barnsley lads do it simply because that’s what they are, they are not trying live up to anything, they actually are what they are.
Sorry about the rant there, but special people require special praise, and its been a privilege to for me to have worked with these people, that’s why I like to see Newcastle in particular do well, the Toon lads deserve it.
And of course its good to see lowly Hull hanging in there, I hope they do a lot better next year.

Hull ran out of legs - they got themselves into a fantastic league position early on in the season with some real hard graft but when the slide started they didnt know what to do. Think they went a bit over the top in celebrating staying up. Remember who said "There's no success in avoiding failure."

I have to say i don't agree with that. Although their form towards the end of the season was incredibly bad, they did well for a team that won promotion through the playoffs (if memory serves me correct) and were favourites to go down.
They have all the reason in the world to celebrate, it was an amazing achievement, and why wouldn't a team celebrate staying in what is debatably the best league in the world?
Also the amount of money they get from staying up as opposed to going down (i know teams get parachute payments, but if they don't get re-promoted pretty much the next year or two, they can end up in worse trouble when the money stops.)
And i believe there can be success in avoiding failure, especially when failure is expected

I agree they did start off well, but they only stayed up as a result of other teams losing on the last day - had Newcastle beaten Villa, Hull would be gone down as they lost to United. Had they stayed in good form throughout the season they - in my opinion - had better grounds to celebrate but to celebrate like they did after a poor run of form was a bit OTT. Fine you stayed in the Prem - get off the field and start preparing to stay next year too.

They just stayed up, when they were written off at the start of the season, they had one of, if not the worse run of form in the second half season. They would be overjoyed to continue playing in the premiership, next season getting to play at old trafford, anfield, stamford bridge and the likes, instead of glanford park and keepmoat stadium (they'll be glad to play at the ricoh arena though, such a beautiful stadium

).
Even though they lost the match, survived relegation by the skin of their teeth, and played terrible the towards the end of the season, they would be overcome by emotion and adrenaline so of course they are going to celebrate.
And their fans would be overjoyed too, and as they were at home the final day of the season, they owed it to the fans to enjoy the moment

Thanks for your patience
as I was saying Leeds were alot better than newcastle were, the only reason we went down was due to debt and selling all our best players so

we SHALL be back lol
