I hate facebook. I never use it but I have it because nearly all my family and friends use it, but I can't stick it ! I hate the layout, it's messy and confusing, I really dislike everything about it, however, the only thing that I find that gives me any kind of interest is the groups you can join and the discussion you can have about them with fellow fans, other than that I don't want to use it but I feel that I have to because everybody else does !!! What I hate the most about it though is when I get notifed that someone on my friends list had a "great" night out and had a wonderful shit in the bog, it's so annoying and unecessary! Maybe there's a way to turn off all these notifications but every time I sign on to Facebook i soon become tired of it and lose the will to live.... Anybody else feel the same or feel that they have to use it?

i use it myself ... and i said i'd never use any other Social Networking site, other than Furry4Life, which is a must for me
i only use Facebook, cos most of my IRL & online friends are on it & i've actually got time for it
but what really does get my fur up, is that people send me group invites ... sure i just ignore them, but if its like the same group intive everyday ... gaah
and i find FaceBook more easy to use & not as laggy as MySpace ... since you can add LOTS of stuff on MySpace, like 20+ quizzes etc etc ... and for me, on a PC that was build in 2002, makes my PC LAG

Lol, oh ok then maybe it's me not using it right? If I can turn off all the crap notifications and never get sent an email then I think I may bare with it and use it when I want to use it, for example checking if a member of my family from a different country has sent me a message. Maybe I need to invest a little more time with it and customise it to suite?

Yeah you can choose who you want to be notified about, like who you are interested in, and who you arent. And you can also choose what email notifications you get. Just look into the settings, privacy, notification things etc
I prefer the old layout personally, where everything was all on one page, and i only use it to see what people are up to and to share my photos.

I prefer the old layout to the new one personally
However, its alot less messy than myspace n bebo is full of chavs from my area rather than my friends lol

Like Rach227, I prefer the old facebook layout. A lot of my friends tend to use it as a bit of a meeting point, then go on to MSN or Skype. Still it's useful and can be a lively way of sharing pickies.

Facebook doesnt appeal to me - the gf has an account i think but to be honest any friend or acquaintence from my past who can only contact me through cyberspace is usually somebody I dont want to speak to anyway!

yeah you can customize the email things
sure you can talk to friends over MSN or even forums ... but you dont really need to download anything
and as for the layout, i dont know hat the old layout looks like, but i'd rather use this one myself

I quite like it.
Only really use it for the picture sharing though.
Not too fussed about the layout to be perfectly honest.

facebook is ideal for tracking down people you haven't seen in many a year, better than freinds reunited I think.

Just use a
Proxy for it. Go to the link, type in the web address in the textbox, and the website filter at your works will think it's something else and will allow you access.

Nah work has blocked all proxy sites too

Mar 30 2009, 07:29 AM
Ahh thats a shame.
There's always new proxy sites popping up to get round this problem.
But it's probably not worth the hassle to search for one.

Have to say that most of the time I am on Facebook just to play Mafia Wars or Vampire Wars - purely because I am a geek now! The social side of it just bores me now!

OK, I know that I'm an old fart who is scared by technology but here's my take on Facebook.
1 ... It is the best place on the web to catch a virus, malware or spyware.
2 ... As a basic principle it was maybe a good idea but all the extra stuff is just pants.
3 ... It's the best website there is for "grooming" kids, if you know what I mean.
4 ... Lastly, it is ruining the kids. Just listen to the way kids talk to each other these days. They talk as if they are texting and it's not right.
But like I said at the start, I'm getting on a bit and maybe it's just me and I need to accept that the new ways are upon us and that grammar and spelling don't matter any more.

No you're absolutely right, Steve. And not just those things. It can lose you your job, your partner, friends etc if you're stupid enough. But it also has a few positives for those who arent naive and keep their wits about them.

Ultimately you can get out of facebook what you want. If you don't like it then don't go on it. If you just want the basic things, then just do that. No one is forcing you. As for textspeak, that comes from phone texting not facebook.

I actually find myspace useful for finding new music - WHEN IT'S WORKING!!!
But seriously I have recently got into a lot of bands from hearing stuff on myspace - it's great for sizing up purchases on I-tunes as you can get full songs streamed as opposed to the 20 secs (or whatever) on I-tunes.
For social networking it's crap - and I think it's seeing hard times at mo because they are cutting jobs I read somewhere but I for one would miss it if it went.

I'll never use myspace to
find new music, but once I've found a band I've taken a liking to I will occasionally check their myspace.
