Has anybody caught either of the two programs by Louis Theroux on Philadelphia and Johanesburg crime? Admittedly I only caught the Johanesburg one tonight but I will be tuning into the Iplayer (if it works) to check out the previous weeks. Tonight's was a frank, brutal and disturbing piece of investigative journalism into the hellish and impoverished areas of Johanesburg and the private "security firms" that police the streets because of alleged corruption in the state police. These firms are (unsurprisingly) not far removed from (and closely alligned with) the very people they are supposed to be taking off the streets.

As usual with Louis' stuff it was brilliantly researched and well edited and produced. I was hooked from start to finish.

You can always tell a good documentary when afterwards you sit back and thank your lucky stars you dont ever have to put up with such horrible things in your daily life as reported in this two parter.

The Theroux bloke is a genius, I love his documentaries. And his latest 2 installments have been great viewing (when iplayer works)
