Right my first post is to rid the world of a common misconception of students. This misconception is that, some of us are actually quite good cooks, and that we don't live on pot noodles (atleast, not all the time

). That we can actually make up a meal as we go along, and it will turn out pretty damn good.
I think the best example i have of that, is a meal i made a few weeks ago. I wandered into my kitchen as usual with the intention of making chicken fajitas, only to realise that i didn't have any chicken. The only meat i actually did have was pork mince. Now i had never actually used pork mince before in a meal, because i didn't even realise it was pork mince when i bought it, as i mistook it for beef mince that i normally use to make chili con carnie. So i had a wee think and this is what happened.
For this meal you will need;
1 diced onion
1 diced pepper
1 portion of mince pork
2-3 tablespoons of honey
1 jar of fajita sause (if you can make the sause from scratch thats fantastic, but unfortunatly i lack that skill)
1 portion of rice
An asortment of herbs and spices
Basically i fried the onion, added in the pork mince to fry, then stirred in several tablespoons of honey. Add your fajita sauce and pepper, then put in spices and herbs to suit your own taste (i'd tell you what i put in, but the only think i can definetly remember putting in was black pepper). The honeyed pork takes away quite a bit of the heat from the fajita sause and gives it a much sweeter taste so remember to take that into account when spicing the meal. Leave to simmer for 15 mins and serve with rice.
I think this is probably the first meal i've invented, and to be honest it isn't far from the chicken fajita recipy. But i was proud of it anyway, and would happily make it again. If anyone has any suggestions or alterations please let me know. I love trying new things.

Not as a student, but as a single young male back 15 years ago living on his own I concocted Guiness and Cornflakes (couldnt stomach it now mind). Ironically now I have lived on my own again for some years I have found myself slated by females for eating Fish, Chips (homemade chips/wedges) and egg?? What's wrong with fish, chips and egg???

I had Blue VK and cornflakes the other night, was actually quite nice. but far to sweet for a proper brekky. I'll have to try the guiness variation.
