I have been watching it... although his researchers have found really good subjects
he does not stay long enough the cover each segment of the story... it infuriating
when he stays minutes on an interesting story.

Aye, I must agree.
Although I find it fascinating I do think the BBC should have made the series longer, enabling him to do more on certain states. Some of them for example, he literally just drives through. I seem to remember him doing it to Wisconsin. I mean fair enough, it would take a hell of a long time to go into the depth the states of America truly disserve, but some sections are seriously lacking.

Although that is one of the main flaws of the program, I think it is absolutely fantastic. Steven Fry was a brilliant choice for this series, and from an English point of view I do think he is giving it justice. It reminds me allot of the series of programs Billy Connelly did a while ago. Did a series of travelling round Scotland, one on England and one on Australia.

I dont watch Billy Connerlly... I was brought up in the days when mums and dads never swore indoors. Mary Whithouse was right to try to keep it off television...in days gone by !
Billy was good ... in his travels around Britain and the world ... then he mixed it with an audience.
thats when i switched it off... for good !

Sad that you couldn't be bothered to spell his name correctly. That says something about you !

Strange ! But he speaks highly of you.

I haven't noticed read.gif

Has it? I havent noticed it either Jonny. I thought there was always those who dont like it, but from what i understood, swearing was accepted these days on tv after the watershed, apart from those prudish members of society

Michael Grade has started to ban the excessive use of it ... for one ...only in context !

`prudes`....no ... just people !

It goes on in real life so why shouldnt that be reflected on tv??

I agree about it being in context, and some comedians especially just seem to do it for the sake of it. But swearing as a whole - theres no need to get all uppity about it. And like you said earlier, if you dont like it, turn over. Easy smiles.gif

There's always different prudish members of society going round trying to ban excessive use of swearing on television, and not once have any of them been successful. What makes you think this Michael Grade fella is going to do any better than any of his predecessors?

How can you say "he is giving it justice" unless you know about life in America generally and life in each one of the 50 American states particularly?

America is not Scotland or England: the entire UK is smaller than the state of Oregon, one of the 50 states, and there are more than 300 million people in America of every race, ethnic background and religion.

Maybe he is doing an adequate job given his time and budgetary constraints, but you cannot credibly make the assessment.

Michael Grade has far more important concerns than a few expletives on after kids (with decent parents) have gone to bed.

Because i think he has given it justice as an outsider from an outsider point of view, which is the same position I'm in. Besides i think he showed the country in a fairly positive light. I'll admit, I don't think I know a huge amount about the US, but it provided a good introduction to the topic. I thought some of the stuff was fascinating, it truly is a beautiful country.

Have you even watched the series in question zoro? I notice in your final sentence you use the word "maybe" which inclines me to think you haven't. Thereby, how can you say i'm wrong? On a side note why do you insist on being aggressive to every response that isn't in agreement with your own opinion?
