Anyone know a simple way to change the keyboard mapping on my laptop?

Since resintalling Windows XP, I now find my keyboard talks American (I think) and not UK - the @ sign's swapped places with the " and I've no symbols for Euros or pound sterling, and one or two other oddities. It's not the end of the world (nor, more pertinently, the end of my laptop) but it's starting to grate on me.

Go to your control panel, then click on Regional and Language Options, then on the language tab. Then click on the details button, and it should be there you can change it. On the keyboard bit add the UK option if it isn't there already, then remove US. Otherwise just remove the US option. You'll probably have to reboot afterwards.

I think that should solve your problems

Or you might have this on the taskbar, that'll sort it out too IPB Image

Sorry, Frere - I should have mentioned that I did try changing that setting with no result.

No luck yet?

This seems to happen to our computers at work randomly, and when it does, the controls on the bottom right appear, as frere mentioned. And i just fiddle with those til it sorts it out. But obviously thats no help for you unsure.gif

Obviously biggrin.gif

I've still got the problem - I did google it, and there is apparently software and the like that will allow you to alter everything, but I just wondered if there was a simple way.

UPDATE:

I've just found this from Micro$oft. I'll let you know how I get on biggrin.gif

Nope, it's not... I'm confused how I did that unsure.gif [corrected]

It's not the only thing I'm confused about.

I used the software to create a UK keyboard map (unmodified because I don't need it different to how it was). Then go into Regional Language settings to change to my new keyboard map, and it's there, but also it turns out I already had a UK setting as well - I don't know what made me think I didn't unsure.gif

The extra keyboard map is easily deleted through Add/Remove Programs. But at least I've got software to really screw up my keyboard if I want mellow.gif
