Anyone ever heard of this? I heard about it today and from what i can gather, it uses bluetooth to search for mobile with bluetooth turned on in their area, and then they send them an anonymous message. Heres the wiki page on it, and a bluejacking site giving more info on it.

I tried it and couldnt get it to work, but if i was in a big airport or shopping centre and did get it working (and was bored) i think i'd give it a go.

Here are some stories about it:

Tonight I went to a panto (Alladin) with my girlfriend and our 6 year old. Whilst there I couldn't resist running a scan (my phone was on silent of course). I found several phones come up, all Nokias, whose model numbers escape me (I really don't like Nokias!). Anyway, I couldn't resist sending the message "He's behind you!" to all of them, 2 of which were accepted and 1 of which I heard being received 2 seats in front of me. The guy in front turned around looking for where it had come from and finally spotted me as I couldn't contain my grin. My girlfriend who is well up to date with bluejacking laughed too, but then told me to put my phone away and enjoy the panto!

That one sounds ok. But i'm not too sure this one is all in the spirit of good fun:

Ellie and I were just outside a shopping centre in town and she was searching for a victim near where we were sitting. She came up with a contact; some Nokia, I'm not sure which one. We found out a few minutes later that our victim (who showed an un-canny resemblance to Alan Ford) was sitting in Starbucks with his wife. After they'd left Starbucks, we followed the couple all over town for about 30mins. He couldn't understand what was happening to him and was looking around all over the place for his bluejacker! We went up and down, around in circles, dodging his stare; quite literally, up in lifts, down on escalators! He was talking with his wife (who also had her Nokia out), trying to work out how this ingenious trick had been played on him. The pair were asking around in the shopping centre, and even spoke to a security guard; we got a tad worried at this point! Up and down the streets we roamed when we finally could follow no more, when he walked off to his car. It was a massive laugh and he was the perfect victim! I would definitely recommend bluejacking for a great day out!

Me and a workmate have played that game.

We sat on a roof we were working on in Knutsford with the Bluetooth searching. We sent several racy jokes to people in the carpark below.

It only works if they accept the incoming signal. Some do, some don't.
It's mildly amusing if you are bored.

I made a post either earlier in the year or last year about bluetooth hacking and no one responded. What programs do you use. I've two progams on my phone 'I see your files' and 'blooover 2b' They'll detect other bluetooth phones, but I can't seem to hack or send messages, what am I doing wrong and what programs are you guys using on your phones?

See thats what i dont understand. Some people seem to be able to do it without downloading anything. But i dont think thats the case for me and i dont fancy downloading some strange software just for the purpose of this

Nah you don't need any software for it, unless you actually plan on interfering with their files, contacts, texts etc... but that is illegal and if you do it to someone who actually knows what is happening you can take a hefty fine.

The simple way to do it, is just change your bluetooth name on your phone/laptop/PDA to something like "You just got Bluejacked" or something along those lines. Then you search for contacts and connect to them and the message "You just got bluejacked" will pop up on their phone. The best way is when you personalise it and have a bluetooth name such as "I like your hat", "What you reading?" or "Whats in the bag?"

Its nothing more than harmless fun.
