TRANSPARENT BACKGROUNDS
PSP X2

TO DELETE A BACKGROUND THAT IS JUST ONE COLOUR:
OPEN LAYERS (RIGHT-HAND SIDE)>
RIGHT CLICK ON THE LAYER > PROMOTE BACKGROUND LAYER >
USING THE MAGIC WAND TOOL (CHECK YOUR SETTINGS ON TOOLS OPTIONS)
FOR MINE I HAD IT SET AT:

MODE = REPLACE
MATCH MODE = RGB VALUE
TOLERANCE = 20
FEATHER = 0
CONTIGUOUS = TICKED
ANTI ALIAS = TICKED
OUTSIDE = TICKED

CLICK ON THE BACKGROUND COLOUR YOU WANT TO DELETE >
PRESS DELETE ON YOUR KEYBOARD, ANY BITS OF YOUR BACKGROUND COLOUR LEFT KEEP CLICKING ON THEM AND DELETING>

GO TO FILE > PREFERENCES > GENERAL PROGRAMME PREFERENCES > TRANSPARENCY & SHADING > SET THE “SCHEME” BOX TO BLACK > CLICK OK

NOW YOUR BACKGROUND SHOULD BE BLACK SO YOU CAN GET RID OF ANY BITS OF BACKGROUND LEFT USING YOUR ERASER.

TO SAVE IT TRANSPARENT GO TO FILE > EXPORT > PNG OPTIMIZER
ON THE COLOUR TAB > TICK 16.7 MILLION COLOURS
TRANSPARENCY TAB > TICK ALPHA CHANNEL TRANSPARENCY & AREAS THAT MATCH THIS COLOUR (FIND YOUR COLOUR IN THE BOX)
TOLERANCE = 20 > OK

SAVE IT AS PNG

Shrugs...I just start new projects with a transparent background anyway.

Though recently I've been building up the finished image by using different screens (all transparent) for each part of the building process, then adding them all at the end when I'm happy with the component.

Babs will kill me...I just know she will. As a pupil I'm crap, I amble off and do things my way.
Rach227

You're right fraidso.gif
The tutorial is for taking backgrounds from images that already have a background

but you have to optimize it as a png.
Scorpio
I had one layer as a background and another one for the text. Why didnt it work for me? huh.gif

But i did all of that except starting with a transparent layer i think

"Areas that match this colour" - is that white or transparent that you have there?
Babylon
The background is transparent on my finished image yes2.gif

"areas that match this colour" is default white on mine

that doesn't matter if you start off with a transparent new image

That image, when i was at work, the background didnt appear transparent to me but now at home it does (although not when quoting it)

I'm sorry babs, i'm honestly not trying to be difficult. And i think the way you explain it is so easy to understand, as i said in my first post, but its just not working for me. I'm sure i've followed everything

I would try and help but I don't understand those screens... I have an old one so setting transparency is different. I'd just check you have no foreground or background colours affecting it. and I used floating style text, maybe that makes a difference :S
Scorpio
THanks rach. I think i might give up though cos i prefer photoshop. Everyone says PSP is easier but i dont see it
Rach227
lol I prefer it wink.gif but I have had it for 2 years
