Giving myself a pat on the back. It's a year today that I packed in the ciggies. It's been hard and I still get a craving from time to time but it passes in a few moments.
I had to give up my cup of tea in the morning 'cos I associated it with a ciggy. So now I have fruit juice.

What's the next step ? A pint of vinegar, listen to verdi's requiem mass and probe my main arteries with a 6 inch nail. ? Only Kiddin'

Well done micky.

I quit social smoking two years ago and that was hard enough when having a drink because I am a very social person. fraidso.gif

here's something that might interest you all (take it as you want)

http://www.numberwatch.co.uk/cancer%20list.htm

Some interesting entries on that list, fact is you could avoid the vast majority of those things and still end up with cancer. Cancer after all all is a result of DNA damage that cells are unable to repair and grow out of control, most of the list leads to DNA damage. I gave up social smoking because it was my choice - just like it is people's choice to carry on. Interestingly I look at the list now and think why would I want to regularly subject myself to something proven to cause cancer.

I doubt the list btw - just my opinion. fraidso.gif

I agree but interesting don't you think.....................

I gave up twice, once for eleven months and the second time for seven years but went back to it each time. It's a bit like being an alcoholoic I suppose, smokers will never really be non smokers just ex smokers.

Must try again soon though. fraidso.gif

Very true, I'm always stopping and starting, the longest time stopping was 3 years...I was well over wanting one, it was just a bit of fun having a few "puffs" of someones fag, but it leads on............

Still don't think it's an addiction though, it's a habit.

I kept trying and failing, but finally managed to give it up 2 and a half years ago

If the only way to stop your craving for a cigarette is to smoke one, then you are addicted to nicotine.
It's pointless trying to deny the science.

Nah.

I'm aware of the damage and the anti-social aspects of smoking.

But I seriously enjoy a ciggy. Some are just addicted, but I'm that rare bird that finds a ciggy in those quiet moments of peace, the perfect thing.
Mickyfin
I had my last ciggy on my birthday 5th May 2007. After smoking 40 a day for 40 years. I went to fag ends and they gave me nicotine patches and I existed on them for 3 months. Now when I go to my doctor, it comes up on the monitor screen 'Non Smoker.'
Who am I fooling ? I still want a ciggy ! But I just get up every morning and say to myself ,,,,,,,I don't think I will smoke today.
