BBC and ITV offer "Freesat"This is where
Users will make a one-off payment for a dish, set-top box and installation, but will not pay a monthly subscription.I got excited about this at first, cos i used to have Sky and then stopped it when i couldnt afford it. But at the end of the report it says
Sky already offers a service that is also free to view once the equipment has been bought. So is this just the same as that? ie just having the free channels instead of the (mostly) better ones?

I have Freeview sky, its alright after a while since you find out what you like.
Although some of the music channels are offline, except for Scuzz, and the rest that are avalible are sub-standard.

Ah yeah see thats why i was getting excited by that report cos I have free view and sky with the free to air channels only. I've tried to get sky / digital by other means, ie by the Tiscali broadband phone and tv packages and similar by other companies but its all cable and i cant get that where i live.
So i thought this freesat thing might be different (with proper channels instead of the free crap) but i'm not sure

Well you wont get the sky exclusives, like SKy Sports, Sky Movies and Box Office.
Or the stuff Sky have the agreement to which only sky can distribute in england

True, cos freesat is run by BBC and ITV according to that report. So i'm thinking it'll just be like Sky free to air stuff

But at least you can get the HD stuff that normally you would pay a hell-of-a-lot-more for with sky.

Well I rarely watch much TV. And all a HD screen is, is more pixels.
And since I'm usually watching free films
here and the quality isn't up to HD...I've no need for satellite or HD.
So why did I bother posting on this thread?...no,I don't know either.
*ambles off*

Unfortunately folks, Nothing is ever free. My parents have a sky box, its bloody annoying to flick through fifty channels before you get to a free one. I'll just wait until the switch over and buy a box then.

According to Moneysavingsexpert.com, having the box and no longer paying for sky (As i do) is the same as this freesat thing apparently. Just as i thought
