We have the belief that Nuclear is bad and oil is good. But oil is more dangerous than Nuclear.
But in this space comics/films you see big cities and many earth colonies.
We want to expand!

I don't want to expand, but I just can't seem to help

it.

Some have said I have a gloomy outlook for the future. They are right, I have.
I’ve looked around at the world and seen nothing that makes me feel optimistic. I’ll go as far as to say that unless there is a drastic change in global thinking on a social level civilisation as we currently see it has no future.
I feel a quantum leap in science might save us, maybe something that stops our addiction to oil? But whatever it is, it needs to come soon because I suspect we are out of time.
We’ve made travel about the globe simple, but that put the different cultures face to face, and the extremist are not happy about that, they are trying to either make their culture the dominant one, or put the genie back in the bottle. Neither will work.
We look at the weather and see possible changes that we cannot explain. Currently we are saying we have caused these changes, and are taking steps to reverse the ’damage’. But they are steps which will fail, because the root cause of any changes -mankind- still remains.
For one reason or another, we have changed our medium of trade exchange (money) from a real thing to a virtual thing, plastic/credit/whatever. It isn’t real anymore, it is just numbers on a database. In some way, money has changed from being a medium of exchange for goods…to a trade off against your future. We are using funds today that were really earmarked for the future…or a hoped for future. We are not living on credit…we are living on hope.
Governments no longer control economies, that is down to shadowy men with fortunes to waste. All governments do now is try to control the public -usually via the media, and what the ‘truth is’ is entirely dependent on which media outlet you choose.
We as the public no longer have a say in our lives, many are saying the same thing “Our vote means nothing” which was often said in the past, but now it has real meaning.
None of the above can continue for much longer. We are on the Titanic with the Iceberg looming, and those that COULD change our course are discussing what colour to paint the lifeboats.

I firmly believe that the human race is more resilient & resourceful than anyone gives it credit for. I'm sure there will be disasters & calamitous events that will threaten our survival but looking at the big picture I think the human species will endure. Not only will humans survive but they will learn lessons & become more successful than ever. The human spirit won't allow events to overcome the whole of mankind. Nothing short of sudden destruction of the whole planet can stop us.

No argument from me on that score, but I was really looking at our social setup "civilisation" as we are used to it now.
Do you think that we can continue as we are currentrly doing?

hmmmm fuel wise I think we need to wisen up a bit but the whole creating CO2 gases can be argued against. What I mean is the government goes on about using alcohol as a fuel but it burns it into water vapour, this is a more toxic substance to the ozone layer than CO2 is and also we are in the period where we are hotter than most therefore we WILL see less snow e.t.c when we go to the cold phase again they make uo something else about global warming except theyd call it global'coolong'

Fuel is just one aspect of what I see as a problem we just refuse to face. As regards whether we are to blame for the rise in global mean temperatures...well we probably are but there is good evidenvce that there may be a natural increase too. The Jury is still out.

I vote natural increase, that is until people start burning alcohol in their cars it depletes the ozone much faster, if we are to blame we need to burn somthing better than this 'bio friendly' stuff or stick with what we have for the time, but that also depletes unrecyclable fuel

Rach...have a look at the thread starter post, you'll see what I'm driving at better, and you just might disagree with me.
You seem to think technology might save civilisation...I don't actually think it will.

I never said technology would save us. I was just stating what I believed. Yes, I play my part in trying to help the planet. That can't change if people don't also help and also considering global warming I think that is less if a problem than said and there are other things to consider

Fair enough.
My initial point was (to put it bluntly) the whole problem goes away if we stop breeding like mice/rabbits etc.

They can, it's that they are given no incentive to do so.

And the world poked fun at china for taking a brave stance, and the UK birthrate may be dropping (in some ethnic groups), but the trend is still up due to immigration.
